Thirty Days of Fic: Day 5
01) Something from your very first fandom
02) Something from your current favorite fandom
03) Your all-time favorite fic
04) A good romance
05) A "bad romance"
Hrm. Looking at that prompt, two fics leap immediately and clearly into my mind, and I find I just can't choose between them. Given that I had four fics in my "all time favorite" list, I suppose I can allow myself two here. Both slash, but I think that's because well-nigh every fandom where I ship something het is either *incredibly* fluffy (I'm looking at you, Rose and The Doctor) or something I was more into a few years back, otherwise known as "where where those links again?", so, yeah.

ukcalico is a piece of Torchwood fic, Jack/Ianto like pretty much everything I read in that fandom. It's set on the occasion of Ianto's first day on the job --or, well, evening after first day; same thing-- and since it's told entirely from Jack's perspective, it reads on the surface like a normal PWP. We the audience know more than Jack does about the situation, however, because we watched Cyberwoman. This is, of a certainty, the only fic I've ever read where both parties spend so much time assuring each other of their consent that still reads to me as borderline non-con. In both directions. It's harsh, and cruel, and painful, and beautifully written; I love it dearly.

wordstrings. This would be Sherlock fic, Sherlock/John like all the fic I read for this fandom. (It is my tendency to otp, and to read but one pairing for most fandoms.) This fic, series of fic, actually... is not for everyone. I love it to pieces, but I am told my tolerance for This Sort of Thing is higher than most. This version of Sherlock is psychotic, unstable, and dangerously co-dependent. This version of Watson would probably be better off if he didn't need that kind of adrenaline fix in his life. But together, they are just perfect. I myself love stories about dangerous, unstable geniuses and their obsessions, and this just hits All That Kind Of Thing right out of the ballpark. And manages to do so without, in my opinion, being creepy. I grant that it's a lower bar to clear for me than it would be for some, but still: well done.
