Thirty Days of Fic: Day 9 (happy fic)

01) Something from your very first fandom
02) Something from your current favorite fandom
03) Your all-time favorite fic
04) A good romance
05) A "bad romance"
06) Something from your favorite author
07) An epic
08) Something under a thousand words that you have never forgotten
09) A fic for feeling better
I observe that I have, again, missed a day. Oops? I spent Saturday buying fancy cardboard to matt art with, and then mainlining Star Driver. (excellent show, btw) I did remember that I hadn't posted my meme for the day, but I remembered at about 1 AM, while falling asleep.
When I contemplated today's prompt, two fics lept immediately to mind, and after much thought, I couldn't eliminate either of them. So, since restraint has not been the hallmark of anything I've been doing here, have both:
The first I had in mind is called Off the Map by
debbiel66. When I first read this, I think I spent the rest of the day smiling. It is Supernatural fic of no pairing whatsoever, and it was written between seasons 4 and 5 so it diverges a bit from cannon in a few ways. Supernatural is a show that I love to bits, but it does occasionally become a bit emotionally draining. For the past few years, the writers have just been flinging one bad thing after another at our heroes, with nary a break to heal, and recoup, and be happy.
This fic is the antidote to that sensation. It is every kind, and good, and true thing I ever wanted to say to Sam and Dean. It was beautiful, and healing, and I really feel the universe needed more bake sales to support the fight against Lucifer.
The second fic is Maturity by
orange_crushed. Doctor Who fic, Rose/Ten II. This is actually, unless I am very much mistaken, the fic that first reconciled me to the existence of Ten II-- I was not really a huge fan of the ending of season 4. What we have here is the story of what happened when Rose and also!Ten were asked by Torchwood to retire. And if that were to happen, this is exactly and in every way what would follow. It is entirely perfect.
Either one of these stories can pretty much singlehandedly redeem a terrible day, and both make me smile like a crazy person every time I read them.
