sumeriaSo, for today, I am to pick something with an alternate timeline, which I take to be fic set in the same universe as canon, but where something has alterned that universe. I was tempted to pick ![[livejournal.com profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/external/lj-userinfo.gif)
psiten's "The Butterfly Effect", but then I'd be all tempted to discuss what the key event diverging the timeline from canon was, and that hasn't been revealed yet, and it would be a betrayal of my sacred oath as a beta, and so I can't.
Something Wicked This Way Comes by Aishuu is the one and only piece of Death Note fic I've ever really liked. Light and L are in the interesting position of being people who I cannot imagine not being together in any setting other than canon-- where I cannot see it at all. Basically, I cannot imagine either of them diverging from their plans for something like emotional involvement or sex. Most AU Death Note fic doesn't manage to stay in character, or write those two smart enough for me, so I mostly don't read Death Note fic.
In this fic, all is as it is in canon, but whoever Kira is, it isn't Light.
